Developmental psychology is the study of how and why individuals turn out the way they do. This discipline examines growth and change throughout the human lifespan, studying factors that influence habits, personality, preferences, and health. The theory of psychosocial development created by Erik Erikson is one of the best-known personality theories. The theory differs from many others in that it addresses development across the entire lifespan, from birth through death.
Human development is comprised of four major domains: physical development, cognitive development, social-emotional development, and language development. Each domain, while unique in it's own, has much overlap with all other domains. Current concepts of human development encompass the multiple dimension of the development process as well as the need to seek endogenous roots rather than rely on mimetic approaches. It is a development process in which the human element is not only the means but the end, and may be considered both as analytically complex and, at the same time, holistically. development, Erik Erikson presented a model emphasizing the challenges and tasks presented across one’s lifespan as key to understanding human development.
